New Department of Labor Grant Program (WIRED)
In November 2005, the Department of Labor announced a
new grant program—the Workforce Innovation in Regional
Economic Development (WIRED) Initiative.
WIRED supports regional integration of workforce development,
economic development, and education with funding, ongoing
technical assistance, and support from experts. It is expected
that 8-10 grants will be awarded in the range of $5 million per
year for up to three years. Governors were asked to submit
proposals by January 5, 2006.
